My first visit to the breathtaking Grand Canyon was when I was 13 years old. I had a friend who lived in Phoenix and begged me to visit her, with the promise that her family would make a trip to Grand Canyon while I was there. After scraping together most of the cost of the plane ticket to AZ from babysitting funds, I miraculously convinced my parents to let me go. I will always remember how I felt on that trip – there were no words. I’d never experienced the beauty that was before me and it was just stunning.
Thirty-three years later, I had the chance to travel there again – this time with my family. My sister–in-law and her husband live in Mesa, AZ and we planned a family trip to visit, along with an outing to Grand Canyon. My kids, nor my husband, had ever been there before. I knew what was waiting for them – that first view when you are literally just paralyzed realizing how utterly beautiful this natural wonder truly is. I wasn’t disappointed – the look on their amazed faces, just standing on the rim soaking in the majesty. I let them go first so I could watch their stunned expressions. It was a moment in time I won’t forget. Joining them, we all stood in silence at the wonder of Mother Nature.
If you ever have the opportunity to visit, I can assure you there will be no disappointment.
